[00:00:03] Hello there and welcome to the Beacon Project.
[00:00:10] This is Chaplain Victor. Your chip, the chaplain in your pocket.
[00:00:17] Today we're going to look at step number one of the Bible Life Recovery Program, 12 steps. We're going to be taking the first step today.
[00:00:31] Step before we continue, I will offer a quick prayer.
[00:00:36] Lord God, thank you so much for this opportunity to get together with my wonderful listener.
[00:00:43] Lord, bless them today and their family.
[00:00:49] Help us as we go through this first step.
[00:00:52] In Jesus name, Amen.
[00:00:55] Step number one.
[00:00:57] Admit you are powerless over your problems.
[00:01:01] But remember you are not helpless.
[00:01:07] Admit your life has become unmanageable.
[00:01:12] Let us take a look at a few verses or texts from the Bible.
[00:01:22] The first step is John 15, verse 5.
[00:01:25] I am the vine, you are the branches.
[00:01:31] Those who remain in me and I in them will produce much fruit.
[00:01:39] For apart from me you can do nothing.
[00:01:44] And who said that?
[00:01:46] The boss.
[00:01:48] The second text to consider is found in Philippians 4, verses 12 through 13, where Paul writes, I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything.
[00:02:05] I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, whether plenty or little.
[00:02:20] For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.
[00:02:26] That's found in Philippians, chapter 4, verses 12 and 13.
[00:02:32] In Romans, chapter 7, verses 18 through 20, Paul writes, and I know that nothing good lives in me. That is in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can't.
[00:02:52] I want to do what is good, but I don't.
[00:02:57] I don't want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.
[00:03:04] But if I do what I don't want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong.
[00:03:13] It is sin living in me that does it. That is Romans 7, 18, 20. And in the same chapter, verses 24 and 25, we can hear the frustration that Paul is demonstrating. He says, oh, what a miserable person I am.
[00:03:40] Who will free me from this life that is dominated by sin and death?
[00:03:48] Thank God.
[00:03:50] He says, the answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord.
[00:04:01] So you see how it is in my mind. I really want to obey God's law, but because of my sinful nature, I am a slave to sin.
[00:04:15] We learn from John 15:5 that if we stay connected to Jesus, aka the boss, we will bear much fruit. Bearing fruit for God means doing good works and treating others with love.
[00:04:31] It also means taking care of ourselves and glorifying God in our bodies.
[00:04:37] We also learn that without Jesus, in other words, the Boss, we can't do anything.
[00:04:49] The same with you. If you want victory in life, then stick with Jesus, aka the boss.
[00:04:58] The devil already lost 2,000 years ago. He is now trying to fight like heck to get as many people as he can to go to hell with him.
[00:05:09] But not you.
[00:05:12] You are Christ's special person. Stick with the Boss and you will never lose.
[00:05:22] In Romans 7, 18:20, Paul states that he knows that nothing good lives in him, in other words, his sinful nature. He confesses that he wants to do what is right, but he can't. He wants to do what is good, but he doesn't. He admits that he does not want to do what is wrong, but he does it anyway.
[00:05:39] Do you feel like that Sometimes?
[00:05:43] You must remember that your fight is against the Devil and all his hosts.
[00:05:48] And you're also fighting yourself.
[00:05:50] However, God, all of the good angels and all of heaven is on your side.
[00:06:00] So stick with the Boss and your chip the chaplain in your pocket and you and your family will be winners.
[00:06:14] So here are some questions for reflection. In what areas of your life is it harder for you to admit that you are powerless?
[00:06:22] Number two.
[00:06:24] What do you think the difference is between powerlessness and helplessness?
[00:06:28] And number three.
[00:06:30] Why is victory only possible through surrender?
[00:06:37] This has been your chip the chaplain in your pocket.
[00:06:41] May God bless you and keep you in all his ways.
[00:06:47] Let us pray.
[00:06:48] Lord God, thank you for today.
[00:06:51] Bless the listener and their family.
[00:06:55] Give them the victory in this process. In Jesus name, amen.
